The story of La Gloria Cubana
La Gloria Cubana was created in 1885 by the Sociedad Cabañas y Castro. José F. Rocha bought the brand in 1905 and made its cigars at his factory at 364 Miguel Street in Havana.
Following Rocha's death in 1954, the Cifuentes family acquired La Gloria Cubana and Bolívar from his former company. Production moved to Havana's Partagás Factory, and La Gloria Cubana became popular as an export brand.
After the Cuban Revolution, the brand and factory were seized by the new government. Production ceased for several years before the marque was revived around 1965 at the former Partagás Factory. The Cuban brand is produced in smaller quantities than other brands, and the Médaille d'Or No. 2 is identified as a particularly prized vitola.
A separate La Gloria Cubana brand is made in the Dominican Republic by El Credito Cigar Company for General Cigar. Ernesto Perez-Carrillo sold La Gloria Cubana to General Cigar in 1999 for an undisclosed price. In 2021, the brand was among the first moved to The Forged Cigar Company distribution portfolio.
