The story of Obsidian
Obsidian originated within Padilla Cigar Company, incorporated by brothers Ernesto and Carlos Padilla on April 24, 2003. Ernesto directed product development and marketing, while Carlos handled administration and management.
The first Padilla Edición Especial Obsidian was a limited-production Toro measuring 6 x 54. Its blend paired a deep black Nicaraguan ligero maduro wrapper with Honduran Corojo from Jalapá and dark Nicaraguan tobaccos grown in Estelí. The initial release was limited to 50,000 cigars.
In late 2007, Obsidian returned as an exclusive for a single retailer. This version changed the shape to a 6 x 54 Belicoso and was made at Pepin Garcia's TACUBA factory in Nicaragua. By 2015, Padilla Obsidian was listed among Padilla Cigar Company's regular-production lines.
Obsidian was also among the cigars made by the Plasencia organization, whose factories operated in Honduras and Nicaragua.
