The story of Plasencia
The Plasencia family’s cigar-producing history spans more than a century and began in the Pinar del Río region of Cuba. The family has since become one of the largest tobacco growers and supplies tobacco to leading cigar brands.
In Nicaragua, Plasencia produces hand-rolled, long-filler cigars using tobacco cultivated on its farms. The family serves as blender for its own cigars, including Nicaraguan puros drawn from multiple growing areas.
The 2023 Year of the Rabbit was the family’s third Chinese zodiac release. Created for the Lunar New Year, it was limited to 6,000 ten-cigar boxes, with 3,000 allocated to the United States.

Year of the Rabbit
Plasencia released its third Chinese zodiac cigar in a production of 6,000 boxes, half allocated to the U.S. market.
How they make them
The 2023 Year of the Rabbit illustrates Plasencia’s farm-based approach: it is a hand-rolled, long-filler Nicaraguan puro with a Nicaraguan Habano wrapper and Nicaraguan binder and filler. Its blend uses tobacco from various Plasencia farms, with particular emphasis on leaf from a special area within the Jalapa Valley.
